Part of a former Victorian church that had been converted into a wedding venue collapsed onto a street in Cleckheaton on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Police and the fire service were called to reports of a building collapse on Bradford Road at about 10:00 BST. A police spokesperson said no one was injured.

Images shared on social media and seen by local media showed large blocks of broken stone strewn across the pavement at the bottom of the steps outside The Monal, with parts of the building's facade missing. The venue, housed in a Grade II* listed hall, described the incident as "minor" and said the "most important news is that everyone is completely safe."

In a statement, The Monal said its team was "assessing everything to ensure the space remains safe, secure and welcoming for everyone" and asked for patience while that work was carried out.

Bradford Road remained closed on Saturday afternoon while emergency services and local highway authorities dealt with the scene. West Yorkshire Police confirmed Kirklees Highways was managing the road closure.

Officers and fire crews attended to make the area safe and to carry out initial checks, police said. There was no immediate word on the cause of the collapse or the extent of structural damage to the rest of the building. The Grade II* listing indicates the building is of particular historic interest, reflecting its Victorian origins before its conversion to a commercial venue.

Local authorities and the venue stated that further assessments would follow to determine necessary repairs and any safety measures. Investigations into the precise circumstances of the collapse were ongoing, and officials asked the public to avoid the area while the scene remained cordoned off.
