Parents of the children injured in the Parnell Square attack have been notified that the suspect, Riad Bouchaker, suffered a stroke and is currently in the hospital. Bouchaker, who attacked children at a creche last year, had collapsed in prison last month.

The development comes ahead of Bouchaker's scheduled sentencing hearing. His defense team had previously argued that a life sentence would be inappropriate due to an intellectual disability.

During a court hearing, it was revealed that Bouchaker left his belongings at a mosque before heading to Parnell Square with a large kitchen knife. He reportedly sought directions to the school before carrying out the attack on a group of junior and senior infants.
