Pampelonne beach, a three-and-a-half-kilometer stretch of sand near Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera, has been identified as Europe's most valuable beach, with an estimated land value of €843 million (approximately £720 million). The valuation comes from research conducted by luxury villa holiday specialists CV Villas.

The research considers the value of the land adjacent to the beaches, which significantly contributes to their overall estimated worth. Pampelonne's proximity to Saint-Tropez, a destination known for its glamorous image and celebrity visitors, plays a key role in its high valuation. The beach, which became a symbol of Riviera glamour in the 1950s, is accessible from London Heathrow via a two-hour flight to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, followed by a 90-minute drive.

Beach clubs, including the well-known Club 55, line Pampelonne, attracting a crowd that arrives by both yacht and road. The area features some of the most expensive coastal properties in Europe.

Following Pampelonne in the ranking is Praia da Falésia in Portugal, a five-kilometer stretch near Albufeira, valued at €573.2 million (£489 million). This beach is noted for its rust-colored cliffs and pine trees, making it popular for long walks and family visits. Its significant length is a major factor in its valuation, even with lower property prices in the Algarve region.

In second place is Portugal's mammoth Praia da Falésia

Third on the list is Playa Bolonia near Tarifa in Andalucía, Spain, with an estimated value of €364.9 million (£311 million). This Spanish beach is recognized for its large natural dune and the nearby Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, situated within a protected natural park.

Rounding out the top five are Ölüdeniz in Turkey (€113.2 million / £96 million) and Alzada Beach in Spain (€104.4 million / £89 million).

According to Hannah Marshall, a luxury travel destination expert at CV Villas, the location is a primary driver of beach value. She noted that a beach in a prime location like Saint-Tropez commands a higher value than a more secluded, albeit equally beautiful, shore. Marshall also emphasized that while the land surrounding a beach may have a high monetary value, the emotional connection and feeling a beach evokes for individuals are paramount, and enjoying a day on any beach is free.
