Overweight Bulldog Sheds Pounds, Finds New Home

Peggy-Sue, a bulldog who arrived at the RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre in Somerset, England, weighing 72 pounds, has shed 18 pounds and found a new home. Her initial weight made her approximately 30 pounds overweight, equivalent to the weight of a baby hippopotamus.

Upon her arrival in July 2025, Peggy-Sue's size severely impacted her mobility. She could only walk a few steps before collapsing and suffered from ingrown claws, infected skin folds, and overheating, according to the shelter. Anita Clark, RSPCA Deputy Centre Manager, described her condition as difficult, noting that she had to be carried in a crate to her kennel.

Peggy-Sue's recovery began with a foster family committed to improving her health. They implemented a diet and exercise regimen to help her lose weight. Concurrently, Peggy-Sue was adopted by Emmie and Andy, a couple who had recently lost their own dog. They continued her weight loss journey, gradually increasing her activity levels.

Today, Peggy-Sue weighs around 54 pounds. She now enjoys activities like coastal walks and beach trips with her new canine companion, Mr. Woo. The RSPCA expressed gratitude to all those involved in Peggy-Sue's rehabilitation and successful adoption, highlighting the collaborative effort that led to a positive outcome.
