Overhead Line Fault Causes Rail Disruption on West Coast Main Line
Passengers are advised to check travel plans due to ongoing repairs affecting services between Stafford and Wolverhampton.
Rail services on the West Coast Main Line in Staffordshire experienced significant disruption Saturday due to an overhead line fault near Penkridge. The issue involved the 25,000-volt wires that power trains, impacting travel between Stafford and Wolverhampton.
Network Rail teams worked to repair the fault, and by 12:00 BST, the lines between Stafford and Birmingham New Street were reopened. However, residual disruption and delays were anticipated to continue throughout the day, with full service recovery expected by 16:00 BST. "Our teams have now cleared the issue allowing the route to reopen, but with trains and their crew out of position, delays and cancellations will continue throughout the day," said Adam Checkley of Network Rail.
Rail replacement buses were in operation at Birmingham, Stafford, and Wolverhampton to assist passengers. Network Rail apologized for the inconvenience and urged travelers to consult National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel information. Ticket acceptance was arranged on alternative routes, including the East Coast Main Line and Midland Main Line via Sheffield, to mitigate the impact on passengers.
