A helicopter crash in Miami's Biscayne Bay on Wednesday morning has resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to local news reports and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Emergency services responded to the waters off Key Biscayne after the aircraft, identified as a Robinson R44 helicopter, crashed shortly after 11 a.m. Three people were aboard the helicopter at the time of the incident.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that two individuals were transported to a trauma center via ground and air rescue units. WSVN reported that a third person involved in the crash has died.
Aerial footage from the scene showed emergency personnel near a yellow tarp covering what appeared to be a body, and another image depicted a man being taken from the scene on a stretcher. Flotation devices were also visible in the water following the crash.
The FAA stated that the Robinson R44 helicopter crashed east of Miami Executive Airport in Florida. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are set to investigate the incident, with the NTSB leading the investigation and providing all updates.
