A nine-year-old girl has died after being found with serious injuries at the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath, Scotland, early Monday morning. Police Scotland confirmed a 35-year-old man, who was known to the child, has been arrested in connection with the incident, which is being treated as suspicious.

The girl had been camping with her family when she was discovered shortly after midnight. She was transported by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died. Authorities stated that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.

Two other individuals were taken to the hospital with injuries. The family, who were visiting from West Yorkshire, are being supported by specialist officers as inquiries continue. Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern stated that officers were called to the industrial estate at approximately 12:02 a.m. on Monday. Detective Inspector Mike Ness of the Major Investigation Team indicated an increased police presence and activity in the area.

Locals reported seeing a family of four cooking on a camping stove in a grassy area within the industrial estate earlier in the evening. Residents began leaving flowers and cuddly toys at the scene as news of the tragedy spread through the community. Ryan Beattie, who owns a sports injury clinic at the estate, observed a small green tent and a family, including a man, woman, and at least two children, present around 6:15 p.m. He noted it seemed an unusual location for camping.

The Angus Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor Derek Wann, expressed deep sadness and offered condolences to the girl's family and friends, urging the community to respect the family's privacy and avoid speculation. Arbroath and Broughty Ferry MP Lara Bird described the death as devastating and commended the emergency services. A blue forensics tent remained at the scene, which was cordoned off by police.
