Nigerian army forces have successfully rescued 33 individuals who were abducted by gunmen while traveling through Zamfara state in the country's northwest. The rescue operation took place on Saturday afternoon in the Tsafe area after troops, mobilized alongside police, received reports of the kidnapping.

The military engaged the armed men as they were transporting the hostages to an undisclosed location. The gunmen fled into nearby bushland after coming under fire, leaving behind all the abducted individuals. According to Nigerian army spokesman Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, all 33 hostages were recovered without any casualties. The army is currently working to track the kidnappers.

Kidnappings for ransom are a frequent occurrence in parts of northwestern Nigeria, with major roads often targeted by armed groups. Analysts suggest that ransom payments, whether made by families, intermediaries, or sometimes by Nigerian authorities, contribute to the ongoing cycle of abductions.
