A newborn infant has died following a home birth in southwest Sydney, police confirmed. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Tuesday at approximately 6 p.m. after the baby was born at a residence in Hinchinbrook and passed away a short time later.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. Police sources indicated to The Daily Telegraph that the same mother lost another child in 2022. There is no suggestion that the two deaths are connected, and the circumstances of the 2022 fatality are also under review. No charges have been laid, and there is no indication of wrongdoing in relation to either child's death.
