Rescue operations in Nepal's Trishuli valley were suspended Friday, August 28, as a lake formed by a landslide on the Nepal-China border began to overflow. The catastrophic flood, caused by a glacier collapse on Wednesday, August 26, resulted in 489 fatalities in Nepal and five in China's Tibet region.

Nearly 1,000 individuals remain missing across both countries following the disaster. A massive torrent of rock, ice, mud, and debris surged through Himalayan river systems after the collapse, leading to the formation of a lake where water levels continued to rise.

Aerial footage revealed homes submerged in mud in Nepal, a stark visual of the flood's destructive path through the mountainous terrain.
