Rescue operations in Nepal's Trishuli valley were suspended on Friday, August 28, due to an overflowing lake formed by a recent landslide near the Nepal-China border. The catastrophic flood, which occurred on Wednesday, August 26, was caused by a glacier collapse. This event resulted in the deaths of 489 people in Nepal and five in China's Tibet region, with nearly 1,000 individuals still unaccounted for in both countries.

The collapse unleashed a massive torrent of rock, ice, mud, and debris that surged through the Himalayan river systems. The aftermath of the disaster included the formation of a large lake, where water levels continued to rise.

Satellite images before and after the event have captured the extent of the destruction left by the flash flood.
