Musicians and a DJ were among the 10 people killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas, according to the Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union.
The fatal incident occurred in North Andros, located west of Nassau, the nation's capital. The union stated that the victims included members of The Pond Band and a DJ, whose "passion, dedication, and artistry touched so many lives and helped to enrich the cultural fabric of The Bahamas."
The plane had departed from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was en route to San Andros when the crash occurred, the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority reported.
In response to the crash and another incident on Friday, the government has temporarily suspended Flamingo Air's air operator certificate. The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation described the suspension as a precautionary safety measure while the cause of the crash is investigated. The ministry indicated that the suspension is a result of two separate safety incidents involving Flamingo Air on Friday.
During a press conference, Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis said the first incident involved a Flamingo Air plane traveling to Mayaguana. The pilot reported a concern and returned to Nassau. After the plane landed and passengers disembarked, it caught fire. That incident is also under investigation.
