Bellarmine Mugabe, the 29-year-old son of Zimbabwe's late former president Robert Mugabe, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an assault case, according to police.

He was one of five men taken into custody during an investigation into the alleged smuggling of two vehicles into Zimbabwe. The vehicles have reportedly been seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission. Police stated that Mugabe was arrested alongside Munashe Mubawu, Terrence Chinyemba, Fredson Peter, and Solomon Pamire. The group is accused of an assault that occurred at the Brompton Guest Lodge in Harare on November 3rd. All five are scheduled to appear in court on November 5th.

Robert Mugabe, who died in 2019, ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before being ousted from power in 2017.
