Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, erupted last Friday, sending a vibrant stream of orange lava down its slopes. The eruption, which occurred on the Italian island of Sicily, produced a thick streak of lava that descended at least 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the rupture point.
The volcano's activity began at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters, according to data from the Etna Observatory of the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Striking footage captured the bright lava as it snaked across the mountainside.
