Police in Renningen, Germany, are investigating a 32-year-old mother who claimed her three-month-old son, Adrian, was kidnapped from his stroller outside their home. Authorities now suspect the mother may have abandoned her child's body in a nearby stream herself.
A large-scale search operation involving drones and police dogs was initiated after the mother reported Adrian missing on Thursday. The infant's body was discovered Friday afternoon in the Rankbach stream, approximately 1,600 feet from the family's residence. DNA analysis confirmed the body was that of Adrian.
Authorities have stated that the mother is under investigation for falsely reporting a crime. She had initially told police she left her son unattended for only a few moments while she brought shopping bags inside, only to find him gone upon her return. Investigators have reported that no evidence of an abduction has been found. The public prosecutor's office and criminal police department have confirmed their investigations are ongoing.
The mother and child resided in a central apartment in Renningen, a town with a population of about 18,000. The mother reported that she and Adrian had gone to a nearby supermarket on Thursday evening. According to local reports, they left for the store around 15 minutes before it closed at 10 p.m., and the baby was reported missing at 11:30 p.m.
