A mother in Queensland, Australia, has expressed her devastation after witnessing CCTV footage of her three-year-old son, Nikoah, lying unresponsive in a daycare playground, with a staff member nearby. The incident, which occurred last month at Little Creek Early Learning in Loganlea, south of Brisbane, is now under investigation by Queensland's Early Childhood Regulatory Authority.

The video shows Nikoah playing with another child before he appeared to suffer a seizure. The other child attempted to get Nikoah's attention and then sought help from other children. When they gathered around Nikoah, a staff member entered the frame. According to reports, the educator observed the children for approximately 30 seconds before realizing something was wrong and intervening.

The staff member then checked on Nikoah, placed him in the recovery position, and called for assistance. Nikoah was taken inside more than three minutes after he collapsed. His mother, Rachael Pope, stated she was informed by staff that her son was unresponsive for five minutes and that an ambulance was not called.

"Just seeing him there, lifeless, it broke me," Ms. Pope told A Current Affair. "They (the staff) should have been there before then. They should have been having eyes on them."

Ms. Pope took Nikoah to the hospital, where he remained for 24 hours. He is still undergoing tests to determine the cause of the collapse. Ms. Pope said she has not received an apology from the daycare center and that Nikoah no longer attends the facility. She is advocating for increased first-aid training for childcare workers.

"I want other parents to know their children are safe and staff have training," Ms. Pope told The Courier-Mail. "I’m very angry and distraught knowing that my son was lying there for nearly two and a half minutes before anybody did anything."

Daily Mail has contacted Little Creek Early Learning for comment. The Department of Education confirmed the regulatory authority is investigating the incident at the center, which advertises itself as a "premium" childcare facility.
