Mother Faces 'Worst Nightmare' After Daughter, 11, Found Dead in Park

The mother of an 11-year-old girl found dead in a park is experiencing "every parent's worst nightmare," friends said, as police continue to investigate the unexplained circumstances of the tragedy.

Miya Deamer-Jones was discovered dead at a park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club in Worcestershire on Sunday evening, after being reported missing around 11:20 p.m. Police have stated that there is no third-party involvement and are not treating the death as criminal.

A fundraiser established by friends of Miya's mother, Katie Jones, described the young girl as "beautiful" and her loss as the family's "worst nightmare." The description on the fundraising page expressed heartbreak for Katie, stating, "Her beautiful little girl, Miya Deamer-Jones, just 11 years old, has tragically been taken from her." Miya was the youngest of four sisters, and the page emphasized the profound grief her absence will cause.

"We are asking for help to give Miya the beautiful farewell she deserves and to provide her with a lasting gravestone so that Katie and her sisters have a special place to visit their beloved daughter and little sister and remember her," the fundraiser reads. "If you know Katie, you will know just how much Miya meant to her. She was her precious youngest daughter, her baby girl, and no amount of money could ever begin to ease the pain of losing her. But your kindness could take away some of the financial pressure Katie is facing at the most devastating time of her life."

Miya was last seen playing with a friend near her home around 6 p.m. on Sunday. After she failed to return, her mother and friends initiated a search before contacting the police. Miya's body was found at the cricket club approximately one hour after officers were called to the scene.

West Mercia Police confirmed that a file is being prepared for the coroner. Chief Inspector Daniel Pilkington stated, "At the heart of this tragedy is a family who have lost a daughter and sister. Our thoughts remain with them, her friends and everyone who knew and loved her as they face an unimaginable loss." He added that the death has been "deeply upsetting" and has "shocked the local community and touched the hearts of people far beyond it."

Officers have conducted thorough inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding Miya's death, examining all lines of inquiry with an open mind. "Following these detailed and extensive enquiries, we can confirm that we have found no evidence of suspicious circumstances or any third-party involvement in her death, and it is not being treated as a criminal investigation," Pilkington said. He reiterated that a full file will be prepared for HM Coroner for their review.

Neighbors and villagers have shared their grief and sympathy. One neighbor described Miya as a "cheeky character," adding, "There aren't words to describe this." Another resident called her "such a happy girl," and a villager remarked, "They are a really nice family. My heart goes out to them."
