A mother and daughter drowned off the Essex coast after being swept out to sea by a "very strong" tide, a relative stated. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at West Mersea beach.
Six members of Shahin Ahmed's family were paddling in the water when they were knocked off their feet by the tide. Shelina Rahman, 41, and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha, died in the tragedy. Ahmed's seven-year-old son, Musa, was airlifted to a London hospital in critical condition and remains on life support. Three other individuals were transported to another hospital by ambulance.
Ahmed reported that twelve family members were visiting West Mersea for the day. "This was 20 minutes before we were going to go home. The whole day, alhamdulillah (praise be to God), was really nice," he told the Bangladeshi newspaper Surma News.
