A mother and her new boyfriend have been convicted of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Isabelle Welsh. The boyfriend was also found guilty of sexually abusing the child.

Isabelle suffered multiple injuries in the weeks leading up to her death in September 2025, including a fractured skull, Teesside Crown Court heard. Alexandra Walker, 25, and Harrison Simpson, 22, were both found guilty of murder and child cruelty. Simpson was additionally convicted of sexual abuse of a child.

Prosecutors stated that the couple, who began a relationship in June 2025, were jointly responsible for a campaign of abuse and violence against Isabelle. Both Walker and Simpson blamed each other for the injuries the toddler sustained.

The court heard that Isabelle suffered her fatal injuries on the morning of September 13, 2025, while she was alone with Simpson. Walker was reportedly upstairs at their home following a period of drinking and drug use. Later that afternoon, Walker called emergency services, reporting that her daughter had collapsed. Isabelle died in the hospital the following day.

Sentencing for Walker and Simpson is scheduled for Thursday.
