French authorities reported that more than 150 migrants were rescued Tuesday morning after the boat they were traveling in caught fire while attempting to cross the English Channel.
The vessel's engine ignited as it made its way toward the United Kingdom, according to the French maritime prefecture of the Channel and North Sea. All 157 people aboard were rescued and are being taken to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The incident occurred a day after UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated his government would be "relentless" in efforts to curb the number of arrivals via small boats.
