Thousands of migrants remained in Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta on August 3, days after a significant border breach allowed them into the territory. Many of the migrants, camped on El Trampolín beach, were seen rushing to collect water and drinks distributed by local residents.
Migrants expressed hunger and thirst, and stated their intention to seek asylum, refusing to be returned to Morocco. Spanish authorities reported that approximately 69,500 migrants have already been returned to Morocco. The border crisis has resulted in a death toll of 72 on the Spanish side and 11 on the Moroccan side.
