Martial Arts Fighter Killed in Suspected Racist Attack Near Paris
The victim, identified by his club as 26-year-old Pengo Bossio Wangi, was among at least six people injured in shootings at three locations.
A 26-year-old amateur mixed martial arts fighter was killed in a shooting rampage in the Paris suburbs, identified by his club as Pengo Bossio Wangi. French President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a "racist terror attack," stating that victims were targeted due to their "skin color or perceived religion."
The Atch Academy in Aubervilliers, north of Paris, paid tribute to Wangi on Instagram, remembering his "smile, energy and generosity" and stating, "Nothing justifies a life being taken like this."
Authorities reported that at least five other individuals, including a 12-year-old girl, sustained injuries when a gunman opened fire from a vehicle across three locations in Trappes and La Verrière. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the attacks, and France's National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation.
