A man is anticipated to be charged with murder and arson in connection with the death of a 46-year-old woman whose body was discovered after a fire in her Canberra apartment.

Emergency services responded to a fire at a unit in Osborne Place, Belconnen, about 6:40 a.m. on May 18. Upon arrival, they found the body of Kylee McHugh. The incident was initially treated as suspicious by investigators.

Following a months-long homicide investigation, police arrested a 37-year-old man. Acting Detective Inspector Chris Watson had previously appealed for public assistance, asking anyone who had contact with Ms. McHugh in the three days prior to her death to come forward.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, where the charges of murder and arson are expected to be formally laid. Police are also expected to provide an update on the investigation.
