Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Rape of Four-Year-Old Girl in Australia

Shocking details have emerged regarding the rape of a four-year-old girl at an Aboriginal town camp in Darwin, Australia, a year ago, which left her with internal injuries. Nathaniel Farrell, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Northern Territory Supreme Court after pleading guilty to sexual intercourse without consent.

The non-publication order previously imposed by the courts was lifted following Farrell's sentencing, allowing the details of the June 2025 attack to be revealed. The court heard that Farrell lured the girl, who was playing with a younger boy, to a nearby house by offering them watermelon. He then digitally penetrated the child with significant force, causing pain and bleeding. Semen found on the girl matched Farrell's DNA.

"The behaviour exhibited against this child is nothing short of horrendous," Detective Senior Sergeant Toby Wilson stated at the time of the assault.

Chief Justice Michael Grant described Farrell's conduct as brazen, noting a degree of "rudimentary planning" in luring the victim to a secluded location. The judge stated that the offending exposed the victim to sexually transmitted disease, although she thankfully did not contract anything, and acknowledged the devastating impact on the child and her family.

While this was Farrell's first sexual offense, he has a significant criminal history, including aggravated assault, assaulting police, resisting arrest, property damage, breaching domestic violence orders, and breaching bail. Chief Justice Grant had previously sentenced Farrell in 2021 for a brutal assault on his then-partner, who required surgery after being attacked with a metal star picket.

Farrell's legal team requested he be classified as an at-risk prisoner for protection, but the request was rejected by Chief Justice Grant. The judge stated that the classification was a matter for correctional authorities. Farrell is eligible for parole in 2032, having been ordered to serve a minimum of seven years.

The incident has drawn renewed attention to safety concerns in Aboriginal town camps in the Northern Territory, following the alleged abduction and murder of another child six months prior near Alice Springs.
