A man wearing only underwear climbed to the top of a construction crane on the Gold Coast, triggering a significant emergency response on Wednesday morning. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on The Esplanade, between North Burleigh and Miami, shortly after 6 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing the man scale the crane at a construction worksite carrying what appeared to be a bed sheet. Police have established an exclusion zone around the area, closing nearby roads and diverting traffic.
Specialist negotiators have arrived at the scene and are attempting to communicate with the man, who remains at the top of the crane and is refusing to descend. The situation is ongoing.
