A murder investigation is underway after a 40-year-old man was shot dead in west London while approximately 50 people, including children, were gathered for a memorial service. The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots at the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street in East Acton at approximately 7:47 p.m. GMT on Friday.

Officers found the man with a gunshot wound, and despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the official cause of death.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation, described the incident as a "senseless act of violence" that occurred during a time meant for remembrance. He appealed for witnesses to come forward, emphasizing that "someone knows what happened."

The police have established a cordon in Braybrook Street and are seeking information from anyone who was in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or the Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Investigators are interested in any sightings of individuals carrying weapons, suspicious activity involving bicycles, or vehicles driving at high speeds. The public is also urged to share any relevant photographs, video footage, or social media content, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made.
