A British man died after suffering a suspected heart attack during severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight in May 2024. The flight, en route from London to Singapore, encountered extreme turbulence over Myanmar, causing it to divert to Bangkok for an emergency landing.
Linda Kitchen described the turbulence as so severe that it felt like the aircraft was dropping. Her husband, Geoff Kitchen, a retired engineer, fell on top of her during the violent descent. Passengers and crew assisted in moving him, and a doctor on board administered CPR. Geoff Kitchen, described by his wife as her "soul mate," suffered a heart attack after the plane dropped approximately 6,000 feet. He was pronounced dead on the plane. Linda Kitchen was taken to a hospital while her husband's body remained onboard.
The couple had embarked on a six-week holiday to Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia when the incident occurred. Geoff Kitchen was 73 years old.
