A 25-year-old man has died at a campsite adjacent to the Royal Welsh Show, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of three individuals on suspicion of drug-related offenses. Dewi Aeron Evans was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics were called to Penmaenau Farm Camping near Builth Wells, Powys, around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.
His family described him as a "beloved and dear son, brother and grandson" and stated his death was a "huge loss." They have requested privacy during this difficult time. A statement from Dyfed-Powys Police indicated that while the death is being treated as unexplained, there is no ongoing risk to the wider public, and the incident is considered isolated.
The three arrested men remain in custody as inquiries continue. Police confirmed that specially trained officers are supporting Mr. Evans's next of kin.
The Royal Welsh Show, an agricultural event that draws approximately 200,000 visitors annually, including members of the royal family, issued a statement expressing deep sadness and pledging support to the ongoing police investigation. Organizers emphasized that the safety and well-being of attendees remain their priority, with extensive measures in place including welfare services and medical provision.
Penmaenau Farm Camping, which hosts thousands of show visitors each year, remains open. Site officials reassured guests that the incident was an isolated medical emergency.
