A man in his fifties died on Monday after a jet-ski collided with an inflatable he was on with two children off the Hampshire coast. The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. near Calshot Activity Centre.
Hampshire Police received reports of a man struggling in the sea, and ambulance crews, lifeguards, and a coastguard rescue team responded. The rider of the jet-ski and the two children were brought safely to shore. The man on the inflatable, however, required medical treatment and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police confirmed that the man's next of kin have been informed, and a file is being prepared for the coroner. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. It is understood that the man collapsed while on his way back to shore.
Witnesses reported a significant emergency service presence at the scene, including multiple police officers, coastguard units, ambulances, and an air ambulance car. Access points to the area were temporarily closed during the rescue operation. The nearby activity centre was also closed but has since reopened.
Hampshire Constabulary has stated that enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
