Man Dies After Falling Into Father's Grave at Funeral in Brazil

A 48-year-old man, identified as Adilson Marsaro, died in a tragic accident after falling into his father's grave while attending a friend's funeral in Linhares, Brazil. The incident occurred Wednesday at the São José Municipal Cemetery.

Marsaro was at the funeral of an acquaintance when he reportedly left the service to visit his father's grave. While sitting on the concrete structure of his father's tomb, it suddenly collapsed, causing Marsaro to fall into the open grave shaft below. The loud noise from the collapse alerted other mourners, who then called for emergency services.

Rescuers arrived at the scene, but Marsaro was pronounced dead. According to a gravedigger, Marsaro had interacted with attendees at his friend's funeral and had left his motorcycle and helmet near his friend's gravesite before proceeding to his father's tomb.

Marsaro was buried in the same cemetery the following day. In response to the incident, Linhares City Hall issued a statement urging visitors to exercise extra caution at the São José Cemetery, particularly with the approaching Day of the Dead holiday. The statement noted that the upkeep of tombs is the responsibility of the families.

An investigation into the exact cause of the collapse and Marsaro's death is ongoing, according to the Civil Police.
