A 32-year-old man has died after being assaulted on a London Underground platform as he was traveling home from Notting Hill Carnival. British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the man died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The incident occurred at Liverpool Street station's Central Line platform at approximately 10:51 p.m. on Sunday. Police were responding to reports of a serious assault. Authorities believe the victim had attended the west London carnival's 'family day' event.

Jeremiah Maximo, 38, a British national, was initially charged with grievous bodily harm and was scheduled to appear in court. Following the victim's death, BTP stated they would apply to amend the charge, and Maximo is now expected to appear in court at a later date.

The Notting Hill Carnival marked its 60th anniversary over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with an estimated one to two million people attending. BTP Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn expressed condolences to the victim's family and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"We continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist our investigation. Any piece of information could be vital to us," Blackburn said. He added that the victim was known to be traveling back from the carnival at the time of the incident.
