French police apprehended a man on Monday after he attacked three women with knives in Paris, wounding two of them. The incident occurred near Porte de Clichy, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.
The victims, aged 19, 24, and 36, were attacked with two kitchen knives. Two of the women sustained severe injuries.
Video verified by Reuters showed a man with long black hair, dressed in a cream tracksuit, attacking a young woman with one knife in each hand. It is unclear if this woman was injured. Another part of the video depicted the man subdued on the ground by bystanders, with the knives nearby.
During his arrest, the man made statements such as "It is Allah who commanded me," though authorities could not verify his identity due to incoherent declarations. The motive behind the attack is currently unknown, Nunez stated. An off-duty police officer was credited with detaining the suspect, an act Nunez described as courageous.
The French national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office is considering whether to open an investigation into the incident.
