A 40-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman who was found dead in north London, the Metropolitan Police said Monday.
Simon Levy has been accused of murdering 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins, who was discovered on High Road in Tottenham on August 24. Levy is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court later on Monday, police said.
The charge was announced by the Metropolitan Police in a statement. Investigators have been conducting inquiries since Wilkins was found in late August, and the force said the case remains the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.
No further details about the circumstances of Wilkins's death or the evidence against Levy were released in the statement. The police did not provide information about any prior relationship between the accused and the victim.
Levy's appearance at Highbury Magistrates' Court will be the next procedural hearing in the case. Under normal procedure in such matters, defendants may be remanded in custody or released on bail pending further court proceedings; the court will determine custody and next steps.
The Metropolitan Police frequently advises members of the public with information relevant to inquiries to contact officers or Crimestoppers. Authorities did not immediately announce any formal appeals for witnesses in its charging statement on Monday.
This is a developing story and further details may be published as police and court proceedings provide more information.
