A 45-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 75-year-old woman who died following a reported burglary in north London. Jeffrey Rose, of Apsley Close, North Harrow, was arrested on Friday, ten days after police responded to a call about a house burglary in Tollington Park.

Officers were called to the scene at approximately 9:20 p.m. on August 21. Upon arrival, they found Rose Smith, 75, who was described by her family as a "wonderful, bingo-loving" individual. She was taken to the hospital, where she died the following day. An 81-year-old man present during the incident was also taken to the hospital with injuries but has since been discharged.

Rose is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to face charges of manslaughter and aggravated burglary with intent. The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink.

Ms. Smith's family described her death as the "most devastating loss [they] could imagine." They remembered her as a "truly wonderful, outgoing woman" who loved bingo, socializing at cafes, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Her family emphasized her vibrant personality, stating she was "the life and soul of every party" and brought "laughter and happiness wherever she went."

Detective Chief Inspector Massink stated that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities' thoughts remain with Ms. Smith's family and friends, who are being supported by specialist officers. He acknowledged the concern the incident has caused within the local community and noted an increased police presence in Tollington Park. The investigation team continues to appeal for information from the public, including witness accounts and doorbell footage.
