A woman in her 20s was allegedly raped on Brighton beach in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Sussex Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of rape, and he remains in custody.
Officers have sealed off a portion of the beach, located in front of the i360 tower, as part of the ongoing investigation. The area has been cordoned off to allow police to search for evidence. Uniformed officers were seen guarding the cordon, with others observed carrying evidence bags away from the scene.
A spokesperson for the force stated: "Police are investigating a report of a rape of a woman in her 20s on Brighton Beach that is understood to have taken place overnight on Tuesday 4 August into Wednesday 5 August. The victim is receiving support from specialist trained officers."
Authorities confirmed that a 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being held. The investigation is ongoing.
