A significant fire broke out at a five-story apartment building in the Majorca resort town of Playa de s'Arenal on Saturday evening, resulting in at least five injuries and leaving several individuals trapped inside.

The blaze began around 6:45 p.m. local time on the first floor of the building, located on the island's southern coast near Palma. Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene following multiple reports of the fire and calls indicating people were trapped.

Witnesses, including lifeguards on the nearby beach who observed a plume of black smoke, alerted authorities. Initial reports suggested that some individuals who could not evacuate had ascended to the roof of the building to await rescue. At least three people are reported to have suffered from smoke inhalation, though the fire was believed to be under control shortly after it started.

Images from the scene depicted numerous bystanders observing as emergency vehicles attended the incident. At least two ambulances were present.

Playa de s'Arenal is situated at the southeastern edge of the larger Playa de Palma beach area and is administratively divided between the municipalities of Palma and Llucmajor. The proximity of the resort to the island's airport, located just over four miles away, was also noted.

It remains unclear whether any tourists were among those affected or what their nationalities might be. The incident occurred approximately four miles from the island's airport.
