A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake shook Panama on Friday, prompting the U.S. Tsunami Warning System to issue potential tsunami threats for several countries along the Pacific coast.
The earthquake was centered approximately 10 kilometers west-southwest of Pitaloza Arriba, Panama, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
As a result of the seismic event, tsunami threats were issued for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Ecuador.
