Luton Named UK's Noisiest Airport Location in New Study
Research by Nature's Best reveals Luton Airport causes the highest level of nighttime aircraft noise at 51 decibels.
Luton has been identified as the UK location most affected by aircraft noise, according to a study conducted by wellness firm Nature's Best. Residents in Luton experience the highest level of nighttime aircraft noise, measuring 51 decibels (dB).
The study, titled "The Sleepless Cities Index," analyzed noise levels in various UK locations to determine where residents are most exposed to disturbances from flights.
Luton Airport operates 24 hours a day and permits night flights, which researchers suggest contributes to the high nighttime noise levels recorded in the town.
Leeds ranked second, with residents experiencing 46 dB of nighttime aircraft noise. Leeds Bradford Airport's proximity to residential areas like Yeadon, Horsforth, and Rawdon, as well as its location about eight miles from Leeds city center, likely contributes to this figure.
London secured the third position with 38 dB. The capital is served by multiple major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, and London City, creating a complex network of flight paths. However, some of London's larger airports are subject to specific restrictions on night flights.

Southampton recorded 36 dB, while Reading, Liverpool, and Glasgow were all around the 35 dB mark. Liverpool John Lennon Airport also operates around the clock, with measures in place to manage noise from nighttime flights. Bournemouth, Aberdeen, and Bradford completed the top ten list.
