Metropolitan Police detectives are seeking to identify a man captured on CCTV in connection with a rape that occurred in London's Covent Garden area. The incident took place around 5:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
According to police, a woman in her 20s was approached by a man she did not know while walking along Shaftesbury Avenue. The assault reportedly occurred after the man dragged her into a doorway in Macklin Street. The victim was able to escape and subsequently reported the incident to the police. She is currently receiving support from specialist officers.
Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage showing a man in the vicinity of Lisle Street and Drury Lane, areas near where the incident occurred. This individual is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with short brown hair.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley stated that identifying this man is a priority. He noted that extensive CCTV inquiries have revealed the man was alone and moving through busy West End streets for at least two hours. Ridley believes someone may recognize him based on his appearance, clothing, or movements in the early morning hours of that Saturday.
