Approximately 100 firefighters are currently battling a significant blaze at a waste facility located on Landmann Way in Bermondsey, south-east London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was alerted to the fire, which involves an estimated 50 tonnes of household waste, shortly before 8:00 PM BST. Fifteen fire engines have been dispatched to the scene.

The LFB has issued a warning to local residents, advising them to keep their doors and windows closed due to the substantial amount of smoke being generated by the fire. Station commander Duncan Rees, speaking from the site, described the conditions as difficult for the crews working to control the fire. Firefighting efforts are being supported by aerial appliances, with 32-meter and 64-meter ladders being used to combat the flames from above.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. However, LFB records indicate that firefighters responded to a blaze at the same facility in June.
