Legoland Windsor Evacuated Due to Burst Water Main
Theme park visitors were asked to leave rides and exit the resort on Sunday afternoon after a burst water main affected supplies.
Legoland Windsor experienced an abrupt closure on Sunday afternoon when a burst water main led to the evacuation of visitors. Guests were instructed to disembark rides and leave the theme park at approximately 1 p.m. British Summer Time.
Thames Water, the local water company, confirmed that the damaged main near St. Leonards Reservoir had to be shut off to prevent flooding. This action, however, disrupted water supplies to the Legoland resort. The company noted that some local residents reported flooded gardens and extended apologies for the inconvenience.
Visitors described the sudden departure as a surreal experience. One guest, who traveled with her children from Cornwall, reported that they were at the front of a queue for a ride when operations ceased. Subsequently, an announcement indicated a "Thames Water disruption" in the area, leading to the lack of water supply and the park's closure.
For those who had planned an overnight stay, the disruption was particularly disappointing. One visitor mentioned booking a hotel room and expressed disappointment at having to drive home.
Thames Water stated on Sunday that water supplies had been restored and that permanent repairs to the damaged main were underway. The company committed to providing an update on Monday. Legoland has been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
