Knife Attack at Polish School Injures Seven

Seven people were injured in a knife attack at a Polish school on Wednesday, police reported, adding that the suspected assailant has been detained. The incident occurred at Vocational School Complex No. 4 in Ostroleka, a city located north of the capital, Warsaw.

Mayor Pawel Niewiadomski confirmed the attack and stated that the situation was under control, with authorities investigating the circumstances. Preliminary information from private broadcaster RMF FM suggests the attacker is a 19-year-old student of the school. Among the injured, two sustained serious wounds, and most were students, although one teacher was also wounded.

Police stated on X that officers detained a 19-year-old man suspected of attacking people with a sharp tool near and on the school premises. According to initial reports, seven individuals may have been injured. Officers were at the scene to conduct procedures and determine the sequence of events.

The attack reportedly began around 9:00 AM GMT. The injured are receiving treatment at the Mazovian Specialist Hospital in Ostroleka. An air ambulance helicopter and firefighters were dispatched to the location.

All students and staff were evacuated from the building. Police psychologists were made available to support the students. RMF24 reported that the attacker fled the school but was apprehended by police near the city beach on the Narew River approximately 25 minutes after the incident was first reported.
