King Charles III carried out official engagements on 175 days in the past 12 months, an increase on previous years, even as he has undergone treatment for a form of cancer, according to an analysis of the Court Circular by the PA news agency.

The tally of 175 days compares with 133 in the preceding 12 months and 161 in the first year of his reign. The analysis also records a busy travel schedule that took the king further from the United Kingdom than at any other point since his accession in September 2022.

The past year included long-haul travel to Australia and the Pacific island of Samoa in October 2024 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, a two-day state visit to Canada in May 2025 that included opening the current session of parliament, and a four-day trip to Italy in April 2025 during which the king became the first British monarch to address the Italian parliament. He also attended events in Poland on Holocaust Memorial Day, January 27, 2025, to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Domestically, the king’s calendar took him across the UK to engagements in cities and towns including Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Durham, Edinburgh and Middlesbrough, and to more remote locations such as Lossiemouth in north Scotland and Deal in Kent. He made 22 formal audiences with prime ministers over the past year, the same number as in his second year as monarch and four fewer than the 26 reported in his first year.

Buckingham Palace announced in February 2024 that the king had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and that he was receiving regular treatment. The royal household has continued to record one-to-one audiences with leaders of charities and businesses, meetings with foreign dignitaries and visits to military units during the period, and the analysis notes that such audiences continued even in months when the king was largely out of public view.

The 12 months also featured personal milestones for Charles. He marked the 1,000th day of his reign since accession on Sept. 8, 2022, and celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary to Queen Camilla. The report highlights historic parliamentary addresses as part of a series of firsts for his reign; in 2023 he became the first British monarch to address the French Senate and the German Bundestag.

The PA analysis, compiled from the Court Circular—the official public record of royal engagements—also compared the activity levels of senior royals. The Princess Royal carried out engagements on 189 days, the most of any senior working member of the family. The Duke of Edinburgh was recorded on 129 days, the Duchess of Edinburgh on 117, the Prince of Wales on 107 and the Princess of Wales on 37.

The past year was the first full 12-month period of Charles’s reign not to include a change of prime minister. Liz Truss’s brief premiership ended Oct. 25, 2022; Rishi Sunak succeeded her and was later succeeded by Sir Keir Starmer on July 5, 2024. The king has continued to receive visiting heads of state and foreign leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine in June 2025 and President Emmanuel Macron of France in July 2025.

The Court Circular figures underline a pattern of sustained public duties and international travel by the monarch amid ongoing medical treatment, while also noting that other senior royals, particularly the Princess Royal, maintained high levels of public engagement over the same period.
