A Melbourne beauty influencer has faced court on assault charges, claiming she brandished a knife during a domestic dispute as a form of self-defense. Veronica Mauring, 36, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court after allegedly chasing her boyfriend through their Armadale home with a knife on July 11 last year.

According to court documents, the argument began when Mauring became distressed about being unable to return a parcel at a post office and subsequently found her phone's data had expired. She told police these frustrations heightened her emotional state during the subsequent argument with her partner.

During the altercation, Mauring's flatmate reportedly attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, urging her to put down the knife. Court documents allege Mauring then lunged at the flatmate, narrowly missing them. The flatmate subsequently called the police after Mauring retreated to a bedroom.

Mauring told police she had said she wanted to "f****** kill" her partner. "First I went to Australia Post in Armadale to return some parcel. My phone, the data was off. I tried to call my partner because he has a hold of turning off and on my data," she stated. "I returned home and started to whinge, my partner started to whinge at me and said, 'You f***** c***.'"

She further explained her actions to investigators, saying, "I had this trauma... my anxiety level is just outrageous. So I got a knife, it's not to stab him, just to defend myself, but when he started to heighten myself and be outrageous, I attempted to stab him but it wasn't my intention to stab him."

Mauring, who describes herself on social media as working in "beauty, cosmetic and personal care," described having "heightened emotions" and being "literally frustrated that I didn't get my parcel returned." She also stated that she did not intend to harm her flatmate, saying, "No, it's not true, I put the knife behind me because I thought I might hurt everyone, it's not to slash or stab him." She characterized the incident as "just self-defence, actually."

Despite Mauring's explanation, her flatmate told police they feared Mauring intended to kill her partner and believed Mauring was "really trying to stab him with the knife." The flatmate stated, "I truly thought she was going to kill him." Police also took a statement from Mauring's partner, though he declined to provide one to investigators.

Charges of making a threat to kill and a second count of assault with a weapon were withdrawn. Mauring, who has no prior convictions, is reportedly seeing a psychologist and is expected to enter a guilty plea when the case returns to court in November.

The court heard that Mauring, who has no prior convictions, is now seeing a psychologist and is expected to enter a guilty plea when she returns to court in November.
