An eruption from Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano early Sunday caused widespread disruptions, including the cancellation of flights at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and impacting other domestic routes as ash spread across western parts of the country.

The volcano, situated in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra islands, had exhibited signs of increased activity since Friday. The eruption occurred at 3:53 a.m. local time, lasting 30 seconds, followed by a 16-second eruption approximately three hours later, according to Indonesia's Geological Agency. Closed-circuit camera footage captured lava flares emanating from the volcano during the event.
