A luxury compound discovered inside Indonesia's Cibinong Prison, near the capital Jakarta, has been ordered demolished by lawmakers following widespread public outcry. The discovery came to light after a surprise inspection on September 23 revealed opulent accommodations allegedly used by favored inmates.
Investigators found units equipped with amenities such as air conditioners, large televisions, refrigerators, sofas, and dining areas. The complex also reportedly included a gym, a golf simulator under construction, and luxury vehicles. While prison officials claimed the residences were intended for staff, investigators suggested they housed inmates. The incident has intensified scrutiny on Indonesia's prison system, which has long been plagued by allegations of corruption, where wealthy or well-connected individuals can allegedly secure preferential treatment through bribery.
