Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended a 26-day hunger strike initiated in solidarity with youth-led protesters advocating for education reforms. Wangchuk, widely known as "Sonam sir," announced his decision on the social media platform X, stating it followed extensive negotiations regarding unspecified conditions and a desire to avert possible violence within the country.

Wangchuk, 59, began his fast to support the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a group also demanding the resignation of India's education minister. During his strike, the activist reported losing 11 kilograms (24 pounds) but affirmed he was "still alive." He was previously removed from a protest site in Delhi and taken to a hospital on the preceding Saturday.
