An illegal fishing boat has been seized in Australian waters and its crew detained by Australian Border Force (ABF). The foreign vessel was intercepted on Friday in the Torres Strait following reports from residents on Little Adolphus Island.

ABF officers discovered approximately 700kg of salt, commonly used for preserving fish, along with fishing equipment on board the boat. Authorities stated the vessel was located before any marine life was caught.

The crew is being transported to Darwin for further investigation into suspected breaches of the Torres Strait Fisheries Act 1984. The country of registration for the boat and the crew's embarkation point have not yet been confirmed.
