Hurricane Polo Targets Mexico's Pacific Coast

Residents on Mexico's northern Pacific coast are bracing for Hurricane Polo, a Category 3 storm forecast to make landfall late Monday or early Tuesday. The storm is projected to move over the state of Baja California Sur, a popular tourist region that includes the resort destination of Los Cabos.

Forecasters at the US-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) have warned of significant rainfall that could trigger life-threatening flooding and mudslides, particularly in mountainous areas. In anticipation of the storm, residents began stocking up on essential supplies like drinking water and food on Sunday.

The NHC also issued warnings about the potential storm surge associated with Hurricane Polo, noting that it could be accompanied by large and destructive waves. Authorities in Cabo San Lucas, a town known for its natural rock arch, have restricted access to beaches. Some local restaurants have also closed in the town, a hub for sport fishing and whale watching.
