A passenger boat carrying around 270 people capsized approximately four miles off the shore of northern Cyprus, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation. Local media reported that 159 individuals had been reached by rescue crews.

Murat Senkul, the mayor of the coastal town of Kyrenia, described the situation as "very serious" in comments to broadcaster CNN Turk. The vessel reportedly began taking on water before it capsized.
